Well-chosen games can be an effective method to teach skills needed for the 21st Century including: Critical Thinking, Problem-Solving, Collaboration, Leading by Influence, Agility, Adaptability, Initiative, Imagination, Effective Communication, and Analyzing Information. By utilizing these skills in a fun and repetitive fashion, players build mental muscle memory so that they can access these skills more readily in new situations. This seminar will look at dozens of high-quality games and several research studies investigating the positive impact of play in learning.

Explore how I have blended online polling and gamification in a unique way that promotes student engagement and retention with minimal expenses. Then, begin developing and applying this model to your teaching. By the end of this session, participants will: 1) understand the basic principles and supporting research for the integration of gamification and online polling systems in education including game design tools and literature. 2) Begin creating their own class-specific activity and walk away with additional resources to continue the development of the game. 3) Develop strategies for in-person and remote applications. This seminar is for any level educator from grade school through college and could be creatively applied to any subject.
