The different technologies score you points via different methods at the game's end but, additionally, allow you to discard them during play for a bonus effect. The pace increases when the first wave of lava hits the city. Players have until all of the technology has been destroyed or looted from Atlantis to decide when to flee to the other kingdoms on a first come, first serve basis. Of course, the first to leave gets the best and most valuable choice so players have to balance when exactly fleeing is in their best interest.
