Summary:
Germany’s 1917 unrestricted submarine warfare campaign. Strategic, geopolitical & technological conditions. Presenter Capt. Mark McDonagh of the National Security Decision Making, Inc. staff.
Description:
The German submarine force’s resumption of unrestricted submarine warfare in 1917 resulted in what they came to refer to as “The Killing Time.” With no effective anti-submarine weapons or measures, the Royal Navy was ill-equipped to respond, and the carnage was massive. But it also brought the US into the war. Lecture covers the strategic, geopolitical and technological conditions that led to this campaign, and how it affected the trajectory of human history.
