At Nations & Cannons/Flagbearer Games, we use tabletop role-playing games as a vehicle to tell Revolutionary stories straight from the pages of history! Researched in intricate detail, our content is intended to simulate life during the Revolutionary conflict in colonial America. Our product can be an immersive tool for educators and more to teach civics and hands-on history lessons, offering a window into the lives of the men and women who risked everything to fight for their independence. We are looking to partner with educators and historians to help bring Nations & Cannons to schools, museums, and community organizations, including historical reenactment and immersive learning spaces. Inspired by the Chicago Toy and Game’s “Young Inventor Challenge,” educators created a camp where learners imagined, designed, and created board games. Explore ways to use the ideas of the Young Inventors Challenge to generate opportunities for learners to become the next Hasbro™ inventor! Whether adding to an existing maker space, co-teaching game design within classroom curriculum, spawning a club, or designing a camp, use the seeds of inspiration for your next Grand Plan!

In this workshop, we will approach the re-skinning of Love Letter, Guess Who, and Memory as an activity to invite our students to examine relationships and connections in the classroom and create a game version that reflects their understanding of class material (Humanities, STEM, Art, and all other disciplines welcome). All materials will be provided, but participants should bring an idea of content they teach in their classroom as well as ambition to draw/sketch. (We will also be looking at the legality of creating re-skins and also the relationship with the original games.)

With streaming services such as Twitch and Youtube Live, they have become more accessible and accepted than ever, so how do we implement this with middle school students? Come and hear how one school has used the tabletop gaming genre to teach team building, historical events, social skills, and storytelling to middle and high school students. As a bonus, we'll also discuss keeping the RPG games alive in a time of distance learning! Danielle Powell has spoken on this topic at several conferences including FETC, Star Wars Celebration, GenCon, and TAIS.
