When a Rift opens near a town, the people become panicked and hire a group of Mercs (the players) to defend it, when a group of alien refugees from a shattered world come through, they have a decision to make. Do they slaughter unarmed alien civilians, or convince the town to give them amnesty? The decision is hampered by the arrival of the Coalition of States, who is determined to defend the earth from anything alien.
