Kingsport, Massachusetts, 1927. For weeks dolls have appeared on the beach and local fishermen speak about a mysterious island appearing out of nowhere. The city needs seekers of truth to investigate.
Description:
Summer came early that year. The first strollers took to the beach in celebration of the good weather, and stumbled upon a doll so inconsequential that neither them nor the others paid any attention to it. Nonetheless, a week passed and there were inexplicably dozens of those dolls scattered through miles of beach. Nobody could explain the strange phenomenon and the investigation hit a dead end. Irving Wilkerson, a local fisherman, informed the police that, after venturing far into the sea in hopes of finding more fish to fill their nets, he and his fellow fishermen had found the silhouette of an island that they assured was not there before. As they drew closer, they could see dark leafless trees growing on the island, and hanging from them they saw hundreds of those dolls.

Olmstead's report of Innsmouth would be unbelievable, but enough rumours surround that odd town that you're going undercover to find evidence of real, verifiable crimes - not this fish-men nonsense.
Description:
Considered in isolation, the account given of events in Innsmouth by young Mr. Olmstead would be utterly unbelievable - but enough rumours and incidents cluster around that isolated, unfriendly town to warrant a closer look. As Federal agents, your task is to travel to the sea-port of Innsmouth and carry out an undercover investigation. Look for evidence of bootlegging, forgery, organised crime. Real, verifiable crimes, not the nonsense about fish-men and sea-gods spouted by that unstable young chap. You're not nervous, impressionable antiquarians like him; you're sober, level-headed G-Men. You'll find the truth in Innsmouth.

Like Cook in Connecticut months ago, Gibson died in a bloody attack in the Catskills six days ago. Both had been in Peary’s Arctic expeditions. Coincidence - or did something happen in the polar ice?
