Everyone gets the same Dark Sword Miniature and 45 minutes to show us what you can do! Compete for fun and the chance for prizes in one of our six qualifying round sessions. The final session is a Speed Championship on Sunday (with a new mini) to determine the Dark Sword - Top Gun for Speed Painting - Gen Con 2009! Can you race the clock and be judged the best speed painter? Prizes for 1st - 3rd place in the Championship round will be awarded.

We look at other people’s faces all the time, and we read great depths of emotion through changes in facial features. Veteran painter Derek Schubert will share his insights into painting expressive faces on miniatures. Topics include understanding real faces, choosing expressions, making minor conversions, painting different types of faces, and painting eyes. Mostly Demonstration/Q&A, with some instructor critique and feedback available.

Tom Schadle, winner of 25 Golden Demons and the Slayer Sword, demonstrates his techniques of painted-on weathering and faux-finish battle damage. Adding dirt and grime to your characters, vehicles, and machines of war will give them an authentic lived-in feel. Attendees are encouraged to bring their own models and brushes for hands-on work during class.
